UPDATE FOLLOWING SHORTLY! We had a 21 hour power cut due to Ivan the Terrible!
Each year, Madagascar gets “attacked” by a few cyclones. We were lucky during 2006 and 2007. Although there were a few cyclones, they weren’t that “bad.”
Take into consideration that it takes a Vanilla pod 3 years to mature. That means that if Ivan destroys your harvest on Sunday or Monday, you will have to wait 3 years for the next crop! Madagascar produces nearly two-thirds of the world’s Vanilla

However as you can see from the pictures (From the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and Weather Underground) you can see that Ivan is not our friend!

Sikloon Ivan lyk nie te vriendelik nie. neem in ag dat een sikloon die wêreld se Vanilla kan beinvloed. Vanilla neem 3 jaar om ryp te word. Dit beteken dat as die plante vandag beskadig word, daar eers weer oor 3 jaar n oes is! Madagaskar produseer amper twee-derdes van die wêreld se vanila!)
En dan prat ons nie eers van die huise, klere diere en mense wat weggespoel word nie!
